Rosey Prince
I work from a studio in South East London and painting and printmaking are integral to my practice. Since 2019 I have been part of the Turps community of painters, first on the correspondence course and since 2021 on the Turps Offsite Painting Programme which I will be continuing from September 22.
The paintings are looking for a successful balance between the real and the imagined, figuration and abstraction. Initially working from photographs and drawings back in my studio, then abandoning these to use memory and imagination and an exploration of paint. Based on places I know or have passed through, I focus on the edges or marginal places on the outskirts of cities and towns or hidden between streets and buildings in plain sight but unseen. Although always absent in the work, human presence is evident whether it’s manmade structures or the remnants, pylons or discarded rubbish. These works are political, about the environment and the social impact of the world we find ourselves in.
